First Sunday after Trinity, 29 May 2016

Sunday 29th May 2016

The first Sunday after Trinity

10.30 am   Benefice Eucharist

St Stephen’s Church, Snainton

Jesus was a man of miracles and a man of compassion. We gather tomorrow to worship the one who brings the grandeur of the Father and the power of the Spirit together to transform and enrich our day-to-day lives, and the lives of people around us.

Tomorrow’s Readings
First Reading 1 Kings 8:22-23. 41-43
The Hebrew ideal in Solomon’s day was to be sharply divided from others along religious and ethnic lines. But here the ruler prays to God to be open to the outsider who hears of God’s goodness and asks to be included.

Second Reading Galatians 1:1-12
Paul makes a heated response to arguments that the Gospel he preaches is his invention to please the people. He defends his credentials, curses those who pervert the message and asks if he seems like such a crowd-pleaser now.

Gospel Luke 7:1-10
Jesus sets out on a healing mission at the request of a centurion. The Roman leader expects Jesus to perform the miracle just as he himself would have issued a command – by simply saying the word. Jesus remarks on the astonishing faith of this outsider.

In our prayers

We pray for John and Rosemary Mudd who celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary at this time: may God continue to pour his blessings upon them.

We pray also for those no longer able to worship with us, especially: Doreen Carter, Muriel Little, Audrey Mason, Bob & Audrey Clements, Joan Dean.

We pray for all who have died recently especially: Doris Nestfileld and Win Jackson.
