Churchyard Gardening and Maintenance Group
We are currently looking to set up a voluntary group of local gardeners to help maintain and develop the churchyard.
As the largest churchyard in North Yorkshire our contractor does an amazing job in the time allocated but like many charities our funds are limited and there are many jobs that simply don’t get done.
Could you help? Please contact Dr David Knowelden for more information.
Church Flower Group
We have a team of local volunteers who arrange the church flowers every week. Would you like to get involved?
Can you sponsor a display? Contact Miss Beverley Waldie to find out more.
Church Cleaning Group
The church is open seven days a week and we have a small dedicated team of volunteers who clean the church every month.
Could you spare an hour once a month? Or contribute towards cleaning
materials?  Every little helps!
Open Gardens Sub-committee
Every year the committee organises an event to raise money for the maintenance and ongoing costs of the grade one listed building and grounds known as St Matthew’s Parish Church, Hutton Buscel.   As a community asset,  the church is managed by a committee (Parochial Church Council – PCC) which is built up of local residents, who benefit from “exempt charity status”.
St Matthew’s receives no money from central government or The Church of England and is fully funded by and for the local community.
We are always on the look out for sponsorship, volunteers and local garden participants.
The chairman of the sub-committee is Mr Geoff Gibson, who can be contacted by email on
