St Matthew’s Church has one of the largest churchyards in North Yorkshire and it is an ideal place to learn about nature and the wildlife in our outdoor spaces, as well as a place to be creative and develop practical skills.
Hutton Buscel PCC is working in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council, local schools and childcare groups to provide opportunities for children and young adults to engage with nature and the church community, which may include:
- Building bird boxes and bug hotels
- Weeding and tidying
- Pruning bushes
- Planting and splitting/relaying seasonal bulbs
- Churchyard walks and exploration
As well as volunteers, we are also on the lookout for some garden hand tools, if you have any spare they can be donated by leaving them in church by the south door. We particularly need long handled trowels, a fork, two spades and a pair of shears.
Thank you
